the building glows like a lantern

Constructed with raw brick and exuding the precision of the local mason, the spacing of the brickwork provides excellent natural ventilation and soft sunlight filtering into the building, a prerequisite of architecture in tropical climates. At night, the building glows like a lantern when illuminated.

planting added to the courtyard space

Inside the lobby space is a courtyard, another hallmark of tropical architecture. This courtyard brings daylight deep into the central portion of the building, where a reflecting pool that helps to cool air can also be found. Lush vegetation and planting added to the courtyard space further contribute to the atmosphere of calm and relaxation.

sufficient shade and comfort

In speaking to their project, the MIA Design Studio explains: “In our rumination about the role of architecture in human life, we have concluded that while its basic value is to provide sufficient shade and comfort to its users, it should also allow its inhabitants to enjoy and immerse in the beauty that nature and the outdoor provide, like the sun’s warmth, the wind’s embrace, the grass’ caress, and the water’s cool touch.”
